Logo design for tree time farm
A flier I designed for a community tree planting that incorperates the logo.
An alternate version I could not use but liked better.

Tree Time Farm (alternately known as Chique’s Creek Farm) has a unique farming method of Silvopasture. It is a historical and environmentally friendly farming practice with a community focus. The primary image of the logo needed to be a tree because Silvopasture is ulitmately an agroforestry practice; a type of farming that relies on trees to live in harmony with livestock. Many similar types of farms have logos featuring a tree. So, we wanted a design that, at least, deviated from the others in the style of drawing.

The following are four of the original fifty hand drawn sketches. Of the fifty, about ten made it into Illustrator as a draft. Read more about each idea in their captions!

Ultimately, we landed on the arms around a tree idea because it best conveyed community and the non-corporate nature of the farm. The branding colors were inspired by a Berlioz album cover.
I researched the folk art of Lancaster, PA, where tree time is located and sketched a version of the traditional Ephrata Lily.
We wanted something that could be contained in a square, circle or oval because one of the owners of the farm plans to make pottery with the logo.
Like with the logo to the left, we’re trying to convey the over, mid, and under story of trees that were carefully planned by the owners of the farm.
This is the closest to our final logo. The hands and harms in a hug shape satisfied the need for a containable shape and also imply community.
